Technology Adoption: A Sociological Model of Technological Change

Technology Adoption is a sociological model that describes the adoption or acceptance of a new product or innovation according to the demographic and psychological characteristics of defined adopter groups.

The Impact of User Behavior on Innovation

Innovative technology is not easy to introduce. The different categories of potential customers and users are not considered by enterprises. They treat everyone equally, which results in resistance, an unsatisfactory level of performance, and a low return on investment.

It is important to understand different groups of people to build a strategy that will encourage users to reach for innovation as quickly as possible. Why is it so important? Every time you introduce new technology, you need to convince each of the five user types to do so.

A small part of the market is around 2.5%. They are enthusiastic about new technologies. They are willing to take risks with them and look for themselves.

Young people with high social and financial status are called integrators. They love trying new things and may even encourage others to do the same. It is the second fastest group of people who adopt a novation.

They account for a bit over an hour. The population is 13.5%. They are often referred to as visionaries.

Using Social Media to Promote Change Management in an Organisation

Adoption and change management processes help to support an organisation to prepare, plan for and adopt new technology and new ways of working to ensure the change is sustained and reinforced. As more and more stakeholders get involved, project teams forget how the change was aligned to the corporate strategy. It is important to align senior sponsorship early to define a project vision that is in line with the corporate strategy and to use a Steering Committee or Project Governance Board to stay on top of it.

If the project team are having fun delivering the change, it will be received well by your audience. Change should be delivered using methods that are in line with the culture of the organisation. Raising awareness early helps people to understand the change before they are required to use it.

Technology Adoption Theory

Technology adoption is a term that refers to the acceptance, integration, and use of new technology. The process is categorized by the groups of people who use that technology. The first developers of a technology are called irrators.

Adoption theory looks at the choices an individual makes to accept or reject an innovation. Adoption is more than the choice to accept an innovation but also the extent to which that innovation is integrated into the appropriate context. Customers who are innovative are the first to try a new product.
