The research looks at many different things, such as the physical context, different facial expressions, body movements, tone of voice, touch and smell.

The social cues have been changed by the expansion of communication to mobile telephone service. The use of instant messaging has created a sense of community. The social construction of mobile phone calls and text messages suggests that they are more than a way to converse.
