African Americans are more likely to be food deprived than whites. The senior citizens population is growing at the fastest rate in the United States. A large number of Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans are food-insecure.

A growing body of research shows that college students are facing hunger at a higher rate. Poor academic performance is linked to food insufficiency among children. According to No Kid Hungry, 80% of teachers have seen students lose their focus because they are hungry.
