An email address is a unique identification for an email account. It is used to send and receive email. Email messages need an address for both sender and recipient in order to be sent successfully.

Most email clients and webmail systems include email addresses in their names. The email address with a name is formatted with the name first followed by the email address enclosed in angle brackets. Email can be sent to recipients with or without a name.

Emails that include a name are less likely to be considered junk mail. It is a good idea to fill in your full name when setting up an email account. Your name will be included in your email address when you use mail clients and webmail systems.

Many of us have multiple email addresses that friends and family use to reach us. If you use an email address that you commonly use to your Apple ID account, people can easily find and communicate with you on Apple services like Find My, iWork collaboration, and FaceTime.

Exchange Server 2016 and Outlook 2019: Email Address Policies

Email address policies are used to create email addresses for recipients. Exchange server 2016 and Exchange server 2019: Email address policies are basically unchanged from Exchange server 2010. All non-SMTP email addresses are custom address types.

Exchange doesn't provide unique dialog boxes or property pages for email address types. The appropriate.dll files are required for non-SMTP email addresses. You can use email address policies to assign multiple email addresses to recipients by using different combinations of the local part and domain values.

Only one email address can be configured as the primary address. Email address policies that have never been applied are evaluated based on priority. If you have a priority 1 policy and a priority 2 policy that both identify a recipient, the match in the first policy prevents the second policy from updating the recipient's email addresses even if the first policy has never been applied to the recipient.
